6:30 AM - 7:20 AM    Beat the Heat! (18+ years old) - Beat the Heat! - Session 2
Join KBartley Fitness at Memorial Park for a 6-week full-body workout!  You will start with some mobility/agility, move into strength sets and end with a spicy finisher to get the heart rate up. This is a great community class for all levels.  All you have to do is show up with a great attitude. Each participant will need a mat and a medium set of weights.Please note there are two classes per week.  Monday and Wednesday!
 
8:45 AM - 3:15 PM    Recreation Summer Daycation: Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program - 2021 (Grades 9-10) - CIT Program - Week 5
Reading Recreation CITs will assist Counselors and Specialty Counselors and will move around as needed throughout the program week. This program is designed to give youth entering the 9th and 10th grade a summertime experience that is fun but also teaches responsibility, leadership, and good communication skills. Please note that this program insists that its participants are assertive and self-motivated. The success of this program depends on the willingness of the CIT to communicate with staff and participants effectively.  CITs are not guaranteed positions as Reading Recreation Counselors in future years.  COVID PROTOCOL:Information will be sent prior to the week that your child is attending.REFUND POLICY FOR THE CIT PROGRAM:If you need to cancel the CIT program, Reading Recreation will only issue Reading Recreation account credits.  There will be no refund checks issued for the CIT program this year. 
 
9:00 AM - 9:30 AM    Tennis, Tiny Tots (Ages 3 1/2 - 5) Summer Morning Clinics - Tiny Tots - Session F
In cooperation with Reading Recreation, Tennis Professional, Gregg Luongo, rejoins our summer team. Gregg has been a Professional Tennis Instructor for 31 years. He is a certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), and played as the #1 singles player for Reading Memorial High School and the University of New Hampshire. Currently, Gregg is a Tennis Pro at Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly.  This program is a great way to get introduced to tennis and/or to build upon existing skills at all levels.  A session consists of 5 group lessons Monday through Friday.   If a class is cancelled due to weather, all make-ups are scheduled directly with Gregg Luongo.The Tiny Tots Summer Tennis program is designed to introduce younger children (Ages 3 1/2 - 5) to the game of tennis and to have fun on a tennis court.  Games will be designed to promote fundamentals and interest in the sport.  Children will begin to develop movement skills, hand-eye coordination, and basic stroke production.  This is a great age for children to learn these skills which can help in all aspects of sports play.   Parents are asked to place children respective to their ability. If a child is misplaced, he/she may be switched. In cooperation with Reading Recreation, Tennis Professional, Gregg Luongo, rejoins our summer team. Gregg has been a Professional Tennis Instructor for 31 years. He is a certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), and played as the #1 singles player for Reading Memorial High School and the University of New Hampshire. 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM    SNL Academy Outdoor Fun Program! (Grades K-6) - Outdoor Fun! - Week 6
SNL Academy will be offering a half-day program at Parker Middle School. Programs will include sports drills & skills and cooperative games. The goal of the program is to get kids back outside interacting with their peers in a fun and safe atmosphere.This program is being held OUTDOORS ONLY.  We will set up tents for shade and if it should start to drizzle. There will also be portas on site.  If it does start to rain hard, we will have to call parents to come and pick up their child(ren).  We will make the call to cancel no later than 8:00am on the day of the program if the weather appears to be inclement. The scheduled rain date will be on Friday. REFUND POLICY:If you can no longer attend the week-long session and cancel out, you must notify the recreation division no later than the Sunday before your scheduled session via email at recreation@ci.reading.ma.us. There will only be recreation account credits granted to use toward future programs. Refunds will not be granted for this program. Thank you!

Junior Rocket Volleyball Clinic (Grades 1-5)Participants will learn fundamental skills of volleyball in a group setting.  This clinic will focus on the fundamentals and proper techniques of volleyball for young players and beginner players through fun drills and games.  Players will be grouped by age and ability.Rocket Power Volleyball Clinic (Grades 6-9)This clinic is designed for older players and experienced younger players.  In addition to fundamental skills, focus will be given to basic offensive and defensive game strategies for more competitive play.  Players will be grouped by age and ability.Instructor:  Michelle Hopkinson, RMHS Varsity Coach (mmhopkinson@verizon.net)

Reading Recreation is excited to be offering our 2021 Junior Summer Daycation! Recreation Junior Daycation is being offered for children ages 4 and 5.  The ratio for participant to counselor will be 6:1.The Recreation Junior Daycation will look a little different than in years past. Children will stay in designated outdoor and indoor areas at Coolidge Middle School each week. The total number of children accepted will also be contingent upon guidelines and the space available to us. We plan to take no more than 15 children at this time. This Summer will feature a variety of activities in sports & games, cooperative games, science & nature and arts & crafts.  Each child will be asked to bring 2 snacks and a non-refrigerated lunch. All children will have to wear masks but we will ensure safe mask breaks for any child who needs it. Our Daycation Program will be overseen by two seasoned Program Supervisors who have been working at our summer program for the past 10+ years as well as a majority of returning Summer Counselors. Children will be divided into cohorts of 25 (subject to change per state recreational programming guidelines) and rotate to outdoor and indoor areas at Coolidge Middle School each week.  We plan to take no more than 75 children at this time. This Summer will feature a variety of activities in sports & games, cooperative games, science & nature and arts & crafts. There will be no pool time at the YMCA.  Each child will be asked to bring 2 snacks and a non-refrigerated lunch. Our Daycation Program will be overseen by two seasoned Program Supervisors who have been working at our summer program for the past 10+ years as well as a majority of returning Summer Counselors. The Recreation Administrator and Program Coordinator will also be frequently monitoring the program.  Group requests will NOT be granted this year.We have scheduled special events for each week of Summer Daycation!!!  Week 1: Chris Poulos - Thursday, July 8thChris Poulos, a former world champion bicycle stunt performer, punctuates his admonishments with wheelies and balancing tricks. The motivational speaker also discusses topics on kindness, health and trying to make their corner of the world a better place.Week 2: Rainforest Reptile Show - Tuesday, July 13thThis is a traveling reptile and animal show which teaches children about the natural world and the animals that live there.  They will learn about how these fascinating animals have adapted to live in their environments.  Week 3:  Bubble Music Man - Wednesday, July 21stThis is an interactive program designed for children that brings together musical fun, interactivity and BUBBLES!Week 4:  Halloween Haunted House & Costume Party!Week 5: Curious Creatures - Tuesday, August 3rdLive Animal Show - The Curious Creatures staff of experienced and professional exhibitors will teach respect and appreciation for exotic and unusual animals.  The presentation is hands-on and interactive and includes interesting facts and stories about the creatures in an educational and entertaining environment. COVID PROTOCOL:Information will be sent prior to the week that your child is attending.  REFUND POLICY FOR SUMMER DAYCATION:If you need to cancel Summer Daycation, Reading Recreation will only issue Reading Recreation account credits.  There will be no refund checks issued for Summer Daycation this year.

Once again we will be offering children tennis classes in the evening.  This program was put together with working parents in mind who were unable to register their children for morning classes, although the class is open to everyone.  Participants will attend the class for 7 consecutive weeks.  The Monday program will only be 6 weeks due to the 4th of July long weekend.  Participants are also welcome to choose more than one day per week.  There will be a maximum of 2 courts for night programs so register early to reserve your spot.  If a class is cancelled due to weather, all make-ups are scheduled directly with Gregg Luongo.  If you know that you may be going away for a week or so, you will be able to make the classes up during one of the many other class times.The Tiny Tot group is designed to introduce younger children to the game of tennis and to have fun on a tennis court.  Games will be designed to promote fundamentals and interest in the sport.  Children will begin to development movement skills, hand-eye coordination and basic stroke production.  This is a great age for children to learn these skills which can help in all aspects of sports play.  Parents are asked to place children respective to their ability. Concerts will be held at Memorial Park this year.  There is street parking on Charles Street and Harrison Street and there is a small parking lot off of Salem Street.  Bring your blanket or chairs and enjoy these free summer concerts.If you would like a snack during these concerts, Tony's Ice Cream by Alex (Ice Cream Truck) will be on-site offering treats for a small fee.There are no rain dates for our summer concerts.  For information regarding weather cancellations, please visit the home page of our website at www.readingrec.com after 5:00PM on the day of  the concert.  We will try to post the cancellation notice as close to 5:00PM as possible but please understand that a last-minute cancellation could happen. Steve Savio's concert on July 25th had to be cancelled due to rain.  Fortunately, we were able to reschedule this concert for Sunday, August 15th!!!

Join KBartley Fitness at Memorial Park for a 6-week full-body workout!  You will start with some mobility/agility, move into strength sets and end with a spicy finisher to get the heart rate up. This is a great community class for all levels.  All you have to do is show up with a great attitude. In cooperation with Reading Recreation, Tennis Professional, Gregg Luongo, rejoins our summer team. Gregg has been a Professional Tennis Instructor for 31 years. He is a certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), and played as the #1 singles player for Reading Memorial High School and the University of New Hampshire. Currently, Gregg is a Tennis Pro at Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly.  This program is a great way to get introduced to tennis and/or to build upon existing skills at all levels.  A session consists of 5 group lessons Monday through Friday.   If a class is cancelled due to weather, all make-ups are scheduled directly with Gregg Luongo.The Tiny Tots Summer Tennis program is designed to introduce younger children (Ages 3 1/2 - 5) to the game of tennis and to have fun on a tennis court.  Games will be designed to promote fundamentals and interest in the sport.  Children will begin to develop movement skills, hand-eye coordination, and basic stroke production.  This is a great age for children to learn these skills which can help in all aspects of sports play.   Parents are asked to place children respective to their ability. SNL Academy will be offering a half-day program at Parker Middle School. Programs will include sports drills & skills and cooperative games. The goal of the program is to get kids back outside interacting with their peers in a fun and safe atmosphere.This program is being held OUTDOORS ONLY.  We will set up tents for shade and if it should start to drizzle. There will also be portas on site.  If it does start to rain hard, we will have to call parents to come and pick up their child(ren).  We will make the call to cancel no later than 8:00am on the day of the program if the weather appears to be inclement. The scheduled rain date will be on Friday. REFUND POLICY:If you can no longer attend the week-long session and cancel out, you must notify the recreation division no later than the Sunday before your scheduled session via email at recreation@ci.reading.ma.us. There will only be recreation account credits granted to use toward future programs. Refunds will not be granted for this program. Thank you!

We will explore weird motions and flying things, air and water pressure, crazy chemistry, light and sound, science magic, electricity, magnets, astronomy and more.

With over 250 seasons from US and abroad, Survivor has created some of the greatest challenges on television. Recreating many of these challenges, some with a twist, participants will work to outlast, outplay and outwit through creative, physical, and creative tasks.  Working as groups, individually and in pairs, participants will be presented with their very own season of Survivor…for the love of play!

The philosophy of Super Soccer Stars United is centered on providing players with a nurturing yet challenging environment which encourages every player to express themselves, be creative and take educated risks on the soccer field.  While Super Soccer Stars United is a competitive program by description, it is developmental in nature; technical improvement and confidence-building remain the program's primary objectives.  Our licensed and experienced coaches follow curriculum components to help each player achieve individual milestones while fostering long-term group and team development in a harmonious environment.  It is an excellent tool to support any town or recreational soccer program for players looking to continue to develop.Prior to the start of the program, all registered participants will receive an email from the staff at Super Soccer Stars which will welcome you to the program and provide important information regarding the program. Please note that the program for children ages 2-3 years old is a Parent & Me program.

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM    Rec on the Run! (Ages 9-12) - Rec on the Run!
Does your child love to run? Do they want to learn more about the fundamentals of running?  This program is geared for children ages 9-12 that want to get moving and begin to experience the joy that running can bring.  Each session will be a different style run, helping the kids to build off the session before and grow stronger each time.  Running can be a lifetime sport and teaches such valuable lessons of how to mentally and physically " digging deep", show perseverance and commitment! The last session will be a fun run race format that the kids will build to get ready for! The race will be a 1 mile race with prizes given to the top 3 finishers!

Join KBartley Fitness at Memorial Park for a 6-week full-body workout!  You will start with some mobility/agility, move into strength sets and end with a spicy finisher to get the heart rate up. This is a great community class for all levels.  All you have to do is show up with a great attitude. Each participant will need a mat and a medium set of weights.Please note there are two classes per week.  Monday and Wednesday!

SNL Academy will be offering a half-day program at Parker Middle School. Programs will include sports drills & skills and cooperative games. The goal of the program is to get kids back outside interacting with their peers in a fun and safe atmosphere.This program is being held OUTDOORS ONLY.  We will set up tents for shade and if it should start to drizzle. There will also be portas on site.  If it does start to rain hard, we will have to call parents to come and pick up their child(ren).  We will make the call to cancel no later than 8:00am on the day of the program if the weather appears to be inclement. The scheduled rain date will be on Friday. REFUND POLICY:If you can no longer attend the week-long session and cancel out, you must notify the recreation division no later than the Sunday before your scheduled session via email at recreation@ci.reading.ma.us. With over 250 seasons from US and abroad, Survivor has created some of the greatest challenges on television. Recreating many of these challenges, some with a twist, participants will work to outlast, outplay and outwit through creative, physical, and creative tasks.  Working as groups, individually and in pairs, participants will be presented with their very own season of Survivor…for the love of play!

Amazing Athletes uses a multi-sport program to benefit children ages 2-5 physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.  Our program introduces the fundamentals of 10 different sports (soccer, hockey, volleyball, basketball, tennis, lacrosse, football, track and field, baseball and golf) in a non-competitive environment.  Children in Amazing Athletes routinely gain greater confidence, learn to combine fitness with fun and develop 6 key motor skills:Balancing / Running / Jumping / Throwing / Catching / KickingPrior to the start of the program, all registered participants will receive an email from the staff at Amazing Athletes which will welcome you to the program and provide important information regarding the program.

In cooperation with Reading Recreation, Tennis Professional, Gregg Luongo, rejoins our summer team. Gregg has been a Professional Tennis Instructor for 31 years. He is a certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), and played as the #1 singles player for Reading Memorial High School and the University of New Hampshire. Currently, Gregg is a Tennis Pro at Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly.  This program is a great way to get introduced to tennis and/or to build upon existing skills at all levels.  A session consists of 5 group lessons Monday through Friday.   If a class is cancelled due to weather, all make-ups are scheduled directly with Gregg Luongo.The Tiny Tots Summer Tennis program is designed to introduce younger children (Ages 3 1/2 - 5) to the game of tennis and to have fun on a tennis court.  Games will be designed to promote fundamentals and interest in the sport.  Children will begin to develop movement skills, hand-eye coordination, and basic stroke production.  This is a great age for children to learn these skills which can help in all aspects of sports play.   Parents are asked to place children respective to their ability. Amazing Athletes uses a multi-sport program to benefit children ages 2-5 physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.  Our program introduces the fundamentals of 10 different sports (soccer, hockey, volleyball, basketball, tennis, lacrosse, football, track and field, baseball and golf) in a non-competitive environment.  Children in Amazing Athletes routinely gain greater confidence, learn to combine fitness with fun and develop 6 key motor skills:Balancing / Running / Jumping / Throwing / Catching / KickingPrior to the start of the program, all registered participants will receive an email from the staff at Amazing Athletes which will welcome you to the program and provide important information regarding the program. 
 
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM    Summer Concert Series - Steve Savio (*RESCHEDULED*)
Concerts will be held at Memorial Park this year.  There is street parking on Charles Street and Harrison Street and there is a small parking lot off of Salem Street.  Bring your blanket or chairs and enjoy these free summer concerts.If you would like a snack during these concerts, Tony's Ice Cream by Alex (Ice Cream Truck) will be on-site offering treats for a small fee.There are no rain dates for our summer concerts.  For information regarding weather cancellations, please visit the home page of our website at www.readingrec.com after 5:00PM on the day of  the concert.  We will try to post the cancellation notice as close to 5:00PM as possible but please understand that a last-minute cancellation could happen. Steve Savio's concert on July 25th had to be cancelled due to rain.  Fortunately, we were able to reschedule this concert for Sunday, August 15th!!!

Join KBartley Fitness at Memorial Park for a 6-week full-body workout!  You will start with some mobility/agility, move into strength sets and end with a spicy finisher to get the heart rate up. This is a great community class for all levels.  All you have to do is show up with a great attitude. Each participant will need a mat and a medium set of weights.Please note there are two classes per week.  Monday and Wednesday!

Join KBartley Fitness at Memorial Park for a 6-week full-body workout!  You will start with some mobility/agility, move into strength sets and end with a spicy finisher to get the heart rate up. This is a great community class for all levels.  All you have to do is show up with a great attitude. Each participant will need a mat and a medium set of weights.Please note there are two classes per week.  Monday and Wednesday!

Beautiful Game Soccer Academy presents the Advanced Player Clinic.  This co-ed clinic is designed for higher level players ages 9-13.  Most clinic participants have been playing soccer for at least 2-3 years.  This clinic's format is divided into two distinct categories.  The first part of the morning session will be centered around technical training and developing skills that will help a player perform at their next level.  The second part of the morning we will focus on strategies and tactical understanding of the game.  Our coaches will guide each player on a daily basis to reach new heights and strive for new goals.Our coaches are experienced, licensed, well trained and will provide a clinic atmosphere that is fun and challenging.  Coaches will monitor progress and provide all players an opportunity to get feedback both oral and written.  To ensure proper training, we strive to keep our coach to player ratio at no more than 1:15.Technique training includes:  advanced dribbling (change of direction moves/take on moves), passing, receiving, shooting in and around the box, crossing, heading, volleys, tackling, air balls and more.Tactical training includes:  attacking and defending in small groups, introduce and review the principles of play, set plays, team shape, movement of the ball, combination plays and more.

The philosophy of Super Soccer Stars United is centered on providing players with a nurturing yet challenging environment which encourages every player to express themselves, be creative and take educated risks on the soccer field.  While Super Soccer Stars United is a competitive program by description, it is developmental in nature; technical improvement and confidence-building remain the program's primary objectives.  Our licensed and experienced coaches follow curriculum components to help each player achieve individual milestones while fostering long-term group and team development in a harmonious environment.  It is an excellent tool to support any town or recreational soccer program for players looking to continue to develop.Prior to the start of the program, all registered participants will receive an email from the staff at Super Soccer Stars which will welcome you to the program and provide important information regarding the program. Please note that the program for children ages 2-3 years old is a Parent & Me program.

Amazing Athletes uses a multi-sport program to benefit children ages 2-5 physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.  Our program introduces the fundamentals of 10 different sports (soccer, hockey, volleyball, basketball, tennis, lacrosse, football, track and field, baseball and golf) in a non-competitive environment.  Children in Amazing Athletes routinely gain greater confidence, learn to combine fitness with fun and develop 6 key motor skills:Balancing / Running / Jumping / Throwing / Catching / KickingPrior to the start of the program, all registered participants will receive an email from the staff at Amazing Athletes which will welcome you to the program and provide important information regarding the program.
