Beginners will learn fundamentals and strategies of the game as well as player health and safety. Beginners will concentrate on the rules, regulations, and etiquette of pickleball. Pickleball can be played as singles or doubles, and games will be of the non-competitive nature. This program is great for player ratings 1.0 (New) - 2.75. THE BEGINNER CLASS IS FOR BEGINNERS ONLY! Tennis, Tiny Tots (Ages 3½-5) Summer Evening Clinic - Tiny Tots (Ages 3½-5) Summer Evening - MONDAYS Once again we will be offering children tennis classes in the evening. This program was put together with working parents in mind who were unable to register their children for morning classes, although the class is open to everyone. Participants will attend the class for 7 consecutive weeks. Participants are also welcome to choose more than one day per week. There will be a maximum of two courts for night programs so register early to reserve your spot. Average ratio of participants to instructors in a given session will be a minimum of 4:1 and maximum 8:1. Please remember that we are very flexible with making up missed classes. If you know that you may be away for a week or so, you will be able to make the classes up during one of the many other class times. Coach Holton will be joined by current Varsity players Monday through Thursday from 9:00AM-12:00PM at RMHS Turf 2. We will focus on foundational field hockey skills, game play and fun. Players will practice basic skills such as dribbling, dodging, 1 v 1 defense and shooting. Players will also be able to play in game-like situations and enjoy fun games to practice all skills learned. All levels encouraged to participate. Activities will be differentiated based on age and skill level, so new and veteran players are welcome! Coach Fiore and staff has led his teams to 2 state championships, multiple league championships, and Coach Fiore has received numerous honors including New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week. Participants will receive highly individualized coaching in all phases of football. Run the drills and master the techniques used by one of the top programs in Massachusetts. Along with this high-level instruction, players will participate in skills competitions, team building exercises, and a passing tournament. We will also be joined by some of the most successful players in RMHS history as motivational speakers. Open to players entering 6th through 9th grade in September of 2026. No playing experience is needed! This is a non-contact clinic. Players will just need football cleats and their water bottles. Quarterbacks, punters, & kickers should bring a ball.

This program is geared for children ages 8-14 that want to get moving and begin to experience the joy that running can bring. Running can be a lifetime sport and teaches such valuable lessons on how to mentally and physically dig deep, show perseverance and commitment! The last session will be a fun run race format that the kids will build to get ready for! Players will practice basic skills such as dribbling, dodging, 1 v 1 defense and shooting. Players will also be able to play in game-like situations and enjoy fun games to practice all skills learned. All levels encouraged to participate. Rocket Football Clinic (Grades 6-9) - Rocket Football Clinic (Grades 6-9) Get a leg up on your competition and join current RMHS Varsity Football Coach John Fiore and his staff for a week of action-packed football! Coach Fiore and staff has led his teams to 2 state championships, multiple league championships, and Coach Fiore has received numerous honors including New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week. Participants will receive highly individualized coaching in all phases of football. Run the drills and master the techniques used by one of the top programs in Massachusetts. Along with this high-level instruction, players will participate in skills competitions, team building exercises, and a passing tournament. We will also be joined by some of the most successful players in RMHS history as motivational speakers. Open to players entering 6th through 9th grade in September of 2026. No playing experience is needed! This is a non-contact clinic. Players will just need football cleats and their water bottles. Quarterbacks, punters, & kickers should bring a ball.

Gregg has been a Professional Tennis Instructor for 35 years. He is a certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), and played as the #1 singles player for Reading Memorial High School and the University of New Hampshire. Currently, Gregg is a Tennis Pro at Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly. This program is a great way to get introduced to tennis and/or to build upon existing skills at all levels. A session consists of 5 group lessons Monday through Friday except Week A is 4 days (Tuesday through Friday). If a class is cancelled due to weather, all make-ups are scheduled directly with Gregg Luongo.The Tiny Tots Summer Tennis program is designed to introduce younger children (Ages 3 1/2 - 5) to the game of tennis and to have fun on a tennis court. This program is geared for children ages 8-14 that want to get moving and begin to experience the joy that running can bring. Each session will be a different style run, helping the kids to build off the session before and grow stronger each time. Running can be a lifetime sport and teaches such valuable lessons on how to mentally and physically dig deep, show perseverance and commitment! The last session will be a fun run race format that the kids will build to get ready for! The race will be a one-mile race with prizes given to the top three finishers!Participants will only need to bring athletic clothes, running shoes and water!

Tennis, Tiny Tots (Ages 3½-5) Summer Morning Clinics - Session C In cooperation with Reading Recreation, Tennis Professional, Gregg Luongo, rejoins our summer team. Gregg has been a Professional Tennis Instructor for 35 years. He is a certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), and played as the #1 singles player for Reading Memorial High School and the University of New Hampshire. Currently, Gregg is a Tennis Pro at Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly. This program is a great way to get introduced to tennis and/or to build upon existing skills at all levels. A session consists of 5 group lessons Monday through Friday except Week A is 4 days (Tuesday through Friday). If a class is cancelled due to weather, all make-ups are scheduled directly with Gregg Luongo.The Tiny Tots Summer Tennis program is designed to introduce younger children (Ages 3 1/2 - 5) to the game of tennis and to have fun on a tennis court. Games will be designed to promote fundamentals and interest in the sport. Children will begin to develop movement skills, hand-eye coordination, and basic stroke production. This is a great age for children to learn these skills which can help in all aspects of sports play. SNL Field Hockey Clinic (Ages 6-14) - SNL Field Hockey Clinic Come work with Jessica Palmer, former Merrimack College Field Hockey player and current Reading High School Junior Varsity Coach/Varsity Assistant Coach. Jessica loves sharing her love for the sport and helping to develop players' skills on and off the field.The goal of the clinic is to have each player leave having learned something new and with a new-found love for the sport.Participants will start the day with a fun game to get everyone moving, followed by a stretching session and warm up. The focus will be on developing essential stick skills and passing techniques then work on drills to practice those skills. Each day will end with a friendly field hockey game to put everything into action. Plenty of water breaks are built in as well as opportunities to learn and grow in the sport!Participants will need to bring goggles and a field hockey stick.

Sports Zone 101: Battlegrounds - Nerf Edition (Grades 1-5 and 6-8) - Nerf Battlegrounds (Grades 1-5): Summer Session I Come join the Sports Zone Lieutenants as we test our individual and team effectiveness in battle! This awesome program puts a fresh spin on traditional games like capture the flag, while also allowing children to get great exercise, learn some strategic planning skills, and make new friends. Each week will feature different games with individual and team-based challenges, so the students always have something new to strive for. We will also have all sorts of obstacles for the participants to interact with, so they never know what to expect! There will be no shortage of fun in this program, and we provide all the necessary supplies, so join the excitement today! Participants should bring water, a non-refrigerated snack and wear comfortable shoes!

Summer Daycation Program (Grades K-7) - Week 3 (July 6-July 10): The Greatest Show on Earth! Registration Opens:January 28th at 8am for Reading ResidentsFebruary 4th at 8am for Non-ResidentsChildren entering Grades K-7th will be provided fun experiences in the areas of Arts & Crafts, Science & Nature, Sports & Games, and Cooperative Games. Reading Recreation also plans fun events throughout the summer with performers, inflatable water slides, and MORE! The participant to staff ratio is 10:1. Children must bring their own non-refrigerated lunch, snack and drink each day to the Daycation program. If registering a child with special needs, please contact the Recreation Division for more information.SUMMER 2026 THEME WEEKSTheme weeks are subject to change without notice. Weeks will not be entirely based upon themes. Ride the wave through this week of fun in the sun where we'll have water slides, dunk tanks, and water games galore!! Get ready for water balloon tosses, sponge tag, water relays, water slides and more! Be prepared to get wet this week!Week 5 (July 20-July 24): Reading's Olympic Games!Let the games begin! Welcome to the Summer Olympics! This week will be action packed with a variety of sports and challenges each day! Groups will compete as countries and we'll even have medal ceremonies! Light the torch and prepare for another gold medal week at our Olympics in Reading! Week 6 (July 27-July 31): Dodgeball Week!Duck, dip, dive and dodge your way into Reading's iconic Dodgeball Week! Teams will be split up to compete in a tournament style dodgeball day of fun along with other team games throughout the week! Bring your competitive spirit!Week 7 (August 3-August 7): Spirit Week!Who's ready to show off their Daycation Spirit? This program was put together with working parents in mind who were unable to register their children for morning classes, although the class is open to everyone. Participants will attend the class for 7 consecutive weeks. Participants are also welcome to choose more than one day per week. There will be a maximum of two courts for night programs so register early to reserve your spot. Average ratio of participants to instructors in a given session will be a minimum of 4:1 and maximum 8:1. Please remember that we are very flexible with making up missed classes. If you know that you may be away for a week or so, you will be able to make the classes up during one of the many other class times. If a class is cancelled due to weather, all make-ups are scheduled directly with Gregg Luongo.The Tiny Tot group is designed to introduce younger children to the game of tennis and to have fun on a tennis court.
